Now that your schedule has been cleared, I am hopeful that you will have some time to devote to Ethics and particularly the dilemma of the Forsyth County Board of Ethics. Now is a good time to consider corrective action. I personally have experience with the Board of Ethics and have also served on two Forsyth County boards. Currently, the Board of Ethics is before the courts to resolve a dilemma with the board of ethics rules. The state of Georgia is embarking on an overhaul of sunshine laws and I am hopeful you will consider overhauling the Forsyth County ethics rules. As you are aware, many rule changes have already taken place, but these changes have only been a band-aid approach. Please consider the following, should you choose to embark on an overhaul. 1. Board make-up. Currently, the board is made up of fellow Forsyth County residents. Inevitably, the board seems to get mired in politics. Possibly, consider a board comprised of attorneys from the indigent defense pool of another county to avoid the politics. 2. There are currently and have been concerns about political participation by ethics board members. Two current members of Board of Ethics have liked politicians on their Facebook page.
