De La Salle 64, Hales Franciscan 48 : De La Salle used a sound defensive strategy vs Hales to clinch its 5th consecutive Chicago Catholic League title 2/18/11 at home in the packed gym on the South Side. #3 DLS (19-2, 9-1) turned to a 2-2-1 full-court press when they trailed 19-9 with 7:07 left in the 2nd quarter. The defensive switch stalled #6 Hales (20-4, 8-2). Hales held onto a 26-23 lead after a 1st half that was jam-packed with action. There were 6 dunks all together, with a strong one from Illinois-bound Mike Shaw. After his dunk, Shaw was whistled for a technical foul as he appeared to be trash talking. Dre Henley capped a 6-0 run that followed the defensive change with a two-handed slam on an alley-oop pass from Alvin Ellis with 3:42 left in the 2nd quarter. DLS outscored Hales 22-6 in the 3rd quarter. Ellis had 8 pts in that quarter and Henley chipped in 7. Shaw finished with 7 pts after fouling out with 2:59 left in the game.
