In the Nevada State Court system, 17 cities or towns have Municipal Courts that hear small claims, misdemeanor, parking and ordinance violation cases. There are 43 Justice Courts in Nevada, 9 of which also serve as Municipal Courts. Justice Courts hear cases involving torts, contracts, real property, larger small claims cases, and some traffic/parking infractions. Nevada's District Courts hear many of the same types of cases, and have exclusive jurisdiction over mental health, probate, estate, domestic relations, and juvenile cases. The Nevada Supreme Court is the state's 'court of last resort' and hears appeals of all types of cases as well as death penalty cases.
