Occupy J31 Solidarity for Farmers Against Monsanto
New York City, Jan 31--Farmers from Maine to Saskatchewan took part in the pretrial phase of the Osgata et Al v. Monsanto lawsuit--that's 83 plaintiffs representing 300000 people-- filed to protect farmers' crops from contamination by Monsanto's transgenic seeds and subsequently to abusive lawsuits. As a result of these lawsuits, Monsanto has spread fear in rural America and driven dozens of small farmers into bankruptcy. Monsanto wants the farmers to purchase the transgenic seeds. Pollination by wind, bees or insects cannot be controlled. Farmers are therefore not responsible for the contamination of their crops, organic or conventional, by natural processes. The Federal District Court has agreed to hear oral arguments in this landmark case to decide whether or not the case will proceed. More info: @Food_JusticeOWS; @Occupy Big Food;@food_democracy, #131, #stopMonsanto. In this video, Simran Sethi, University of Kansas, clarifies the science of transgenic seeds and the lawsuit.
