JEFFERSON COUNTY - A judge has ruled in favor of TransCanada in its effort to seize land in Jefferson County for the Keystone Pipeline.Click here to read Judge Tom Rugg's rulingTransCanada is planning to build the pipeline from the Canadian border to the Gulf Coast.While the company works to get government approval for the 1200 mile pipeline, it's going ahead with plans to build the southern portion of the pipeline from Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast, including Nederland.About two weeks ago a group of rice farmers and land owners went to court and asked Judge Tom Rugg to prevent TransCanada from condemning the land for the project.The group cited a Texas Supreme Court ruling that says a company must prove its pipeline is for the common good before it can take private property.Monday the judge released his ruling and said the company can take the land, but he's ordering both sides back to court this Friday to hear arguments about whether the company handled matters correctly with the posting of bonds in the event there is damage to the property.
