Courts in Utah
Court Records, Directory And News in UT
The lowest level of the Utah state court system includes its Juvenile Court and Justice Court. The Utah Juvenile Court only handles juvenile matters, while the Justice Court hears misdemeanor, traffic violation, and small claims cases valued up to $10,000. Utah's trial courts are called District Courts, and there are 36 of these in 29 counties. In Utah, District Courts can also hear traffic and misdemeanor cases, and also hear felony, real property, mental health, contract, domestic relations, and miscellaneous civil cases. The Utah Court of Appeals hears administrative agency, civil, and criminal appeals, and the Utah Supreme Court also hears appeals and all cases with potential death penalty sentences. The Utah State Court website can be found at http://www.utcourts.gov/. This website provides extensive information regarding Utah State Courts, as well as court forms, court calendars and Utah court rules. If you're looking for Utah court records, you can use the XChange database to obtain these records online, but there is a fee for this service. However, most Utah court documents are public record and can be obtained at the courthouse where the case was heard.
